Use case spotlight: SSI Incubator & five new SSI companies

December 20, 2019

It has been thrilling to see the Sovrin community grow by leaps and bounds. With the establishment of Hyperledger Indy, then Hyperledger Ursa, and the new project Hyperledger Aries, widespread adoption of Sovrin compatible products and services is closer than ever. This growing industry of self-sovereign identity (SSI) products and services is part of what drove the Sovrin Foundation to pursue the establishment of the Self-Sovereign Identity Incubator (SSI Incubator). This exciting new program combines expert mentors from all over the decentralized identity world with some of the most passionate innovators in the identity startup scene today.

Spending 12 weeks participating in workshops, seminars, and mentoring sessions, the work of the five startups selected to participate in the first cohort of the SSI Incubator culminated in a final evening devoted to exploring the future of SSI. Their outstanding achievements were showcased at the SSI Incubator’s celebration evening that took place at Amazon Web Services Loft event space on December 12, 2019 in San Francisco. The audience of more than 100 attendees enjoyed the array of dynamic solutions presentations from the energized and visionary leaders.

The SSI Incubator was designed to remove barriers to startup financing and success within the SSI industry. More than just seed funding and high-profile pitching opportunities, participating startups also receive co-working space, educational workshops, mentorship, and networking events with some of the most influential voices in the decentralized identity community today.

Everyone at the Sovrin Foundation is thrilled to see the success of the first cohort of the SSI Incubator, and we’re looking forward to seeing this program touch more early-stage startups in the future. It is safe to say, the Sovrin community is poised to see growth that we’ve all been waiting for.
