Sovrin Network gets major upgrade: Ready for widespread usage

December 18, 2018

The Sovrin Network is a decentralized global public network enabling self-sovereign identity on the internet and a successful implementation of Hyperledger Indy. Sovrin has recently announced a major features update improving the overall ledger performance and stability in preparation for widespread adoption.

Sovrin Network 1.6 now supports backward compatibility, allowing the ledger to remain online and functional while nodes of the ledger are gradually updated to newer versions. This update enables an easier updating process, monitoring and administration of nodes on the ledger by Sovrin Stewards. Stewards are the trusted organizations chosen to run validator nodes  and provide consensus for the public ledger.

The Sovrin Network is designed to bring the trust, personal control and ease-of-use of analog IDs (like driver’s licenses and employee ID cards) to the internet. This 1.6 update will support the growing global use of the Sovrin Network and the adoption of self-sovereign identity
