PROVO, UTAH and SAO PAULO, BRAZIL, Aug. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Sovrin Foundation, a private-sector international nonprofit, today announced that Certisign is becoming a Founding Steward of the organization. A Brazilian digital certificate authority, Certisign is the first Sovrin Steward from South America, which represents another milestone in the advance of self-sovereign identity across the globe.

Self-sovereign identity is the solution to the problem of verifying digital identity on the Internet and the Sovrin Network is the means by which it is being made available to everyone—individuals and businesses—through digital ledger technology.

Certisign joins more than 40 other organizations—including Cisco, Deutsche Telekom, and IBM—running and maintaining the network supporting the digital ledger. This continually growing group of stewards will ensure the network’s independence, operability, and ultimate success.

“Certisign is pioneering digital certificate solutions in South America and will be a valuable asset to Sovrin as we look to bringing self-sovereign identity to South America,” said Heather C. Dahl, executive director of the Sovrin Foundation. “Certisign’s approval as a Steward is a big step for Sovrin, and demonstrates the Network’s increasing reach as a global provider of self-sovereign identity.”

Sovrin and Certisign’s shared values include understanding the need for a fundamental change in how identity is used and exchanged online. Certisign offers PKI-solutions to provide digital certificates, digital signature solutions and digital verification solutions.

“The possibility to become one of the service providers for the Sovrin system will increase Certisign’s position and value for its product portfolio and customers,” said Maria Teresa Aarão, Products and Markets Innovation director at Certisign.
